Rock Breaking Retaining

Block walls were utilised on this project to hold the foundations of a new social housing development with 3x large apartment buildings. The block walls were chosen as the foundations are generally quite shallow, which is good in an area like Onehunga where the ground conditions are usually rocky. This reduced the amount of rock breaking required to form the foundations for the retaining wall. The walls were used to turn the site into a filled site (higher than it was before) so that rockbreaking for the drainage lines and foundations of the buildings became less of an issue, overall saving the developer time and money.
