Flood Prevention
The property owner called us in to look at this second minor dwelling on the back of their section, it was in a flood prone area and the unit had experienced serious flooding multiple times. We investigated and found that the drainage was insufficient so recommended installing a catchpit and upgrading the drainage pipes already in the ground to ones that would allow a higher flow rate. The other problem we found was the existing retaining wall stopped short and the neighbours property was sloped towards the front door of the unit, this meant that every time it rained they had a literal river of water heading straight at the front door! We suggested utilising a timber retaining wall to change the shape of the hill to redirect the water away from the front door and point it towards a nearby overland flowpath. After building the wall and the patio / drainage there was a heavy downpour a week later, the client rang us up to tell us how well it had worked and there was no flooding.
